EigenLayer, the highly-anticipated Ethereum restaking protocol, made its mainnet debut on Tuesday, April 4th — Alongside this launch, EigenLayer's data availability solution, EigenDA, transitioned into an actively validated service (AVS) integrated within EigenLayer.

Despite the mainnet launch, certain critical components of EigenLayer are scheduled for release later this year. EigenLayer enhances Ethereum's security by offering restaking services, allowing staked ETH to be restaked to secure and operate AVSs on the platform.

Following the mainnet rollout, restakers can now delegate their restaked balance to EigenLayer operators for running AVSs. With a total value locked (TVL) exceeding $13 billion, EigenLayer has rapidly ascended to become the second-largest DeFi protocol, buoyed by its point-based reward system for depositors and the allure of liquid restaking tokens similar to Lido's stETH.
