LayerZero Partners Up With Astar Network to Bring Interoperability
LayerZero, an omnichain interoperability protocol specializing in lightweight message transmission across chains, has teamed up with Astar Network, a leading smart contract platform in Japan. This partnership brings forth a seamless integration of LayerZero on Astar Substrate, enabling developers to unlock omnichain functionality between Astar and over 40 other chains equipped with LayerZero endpoints. This collaboration signifies a strategic move to foster a more interconnected and robust blockchain landscape.
What is Astar?
Astar Network supports both EVM and WebAssembly (Wasm) environments and enables interoperability through a Cross-Virtual Machine. Backed by Polkadot's shared security, Astar Network caters to diverse developers, providing compatibility with familiar tools and languages. The platform prioritizes developer incentives through its Build2Earn system, encouraging the growth of decentralized applications (dApps) and rewarding users for supporting projects. Addressing scalability challenges inherent in blockchains, Astar Network introduces a solution that goes beyond the conventional patchwork approach of independent blockchains. Instead, it pioneers multichain smart contracts, leveraging the best features of both EVM and WebAssembly Virtual Machines, and promoting interoperability across the Polkadot ecosystem.
What is LayerZero?
LayerZero has been making strategic moves in the blockchain space. Prior to the collaboration with Astar, LayerZero partnered with Google Cloud in September 2023 to enhance the security and performance of its cross-chain messaging protocol. The agreement designates Google Cloud as the default oracle for securing messages on the LayerZero network, providing developers with a reliable oracle for transaction verification.
In another notable collaboration, LayerZero joined forces with Conflux in October 2023, a Singapore-registered public blockchain. This partnership focuses on developing a blockchain-based SIM card (BSIM) in collaboration with China Telecom. The BSIM project, announced in February, aims to pilot in Hong Kong before a broader rollout in China, offering users secure storage for private keys on their mobile phones. LayerZero's cross-chain messaging protocol enhances the BSIM project, enabling users to seamlessly transfer assets and messages across chains.
