DICT to Hold eGovHackathon 2026 Next Week to Crowdsource Solutions for Government Services
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is set to hold the eGovHackathon 2026 next week, bringing together teams of Filipino developers, designers, and innovators on July 21–22 to build digital solutions for real government challenges as part of the country’s continuing digital transformation efforts.
Organized by the DICT’s eGovernment Office, the two-day hackathon will gather teams of five from across the Philippines to develop technology-driven solutions aimed at improving public service delivery. The competition is open to developers, programmers, designers, startups, and technology enthusiasts, with participants collaborating under the theme “Collaborative Solutions for a Better Philippines.”
Opening Government Challenges to the Tech Community
Unlike conventional coding competitions, the eGovHackathon is designed around solving real-world problems faced by government agencies.
According to DICT, participating teams will work on digital solutions that could improve the delivery of public services for millions of Filipinos. The initiative forms part of the government’s broader effort to involve the local technology community in developing practical, scalable innovations for the public sector.
Participation requires pre-registration, with each team consisting of exactly five members. All members must complete individual registration before being considered for the competition. Selected finalists will receive the full event mechanics and competition details via email.
Building on the Growth of eGovPH
The hackathon comes as the government’s eGovPH Super App continues to expand as a centralized platform for accessing public services.
The platform has recorded approximately 50 to 60 million downloads, more than 55 million verified users, and nearly one billion transactions, reflecting growing adoption of digital government services nationwide. Recent integrations, including services such as MMDA traffic violation inquiries, have further expanded the app’s role as a one-stop gateway for government transactions.
As more public services migrate online, DICT is seeking fresh ideas that can improve the performance, accessibility, and reliability of the country’s digital infrastructure.
Rather than encouraging experimental prototypes alone, the eGovHackathon emphasizes solutions that address operational challenges across government.
Key areas of focus include system reliability, cybersecurity, scalability, user experience, and the overall delivery of digital public services. By opening these challenges to external developers, DICT aims to tap expertise from the country’s growing technology ecosystem while fostering closer collaboration between government and private-sector innovators.
The event also follows broader efforts to strengthen government digital platforms after infrastructure issues experienced by the eGovPH ecosystem earlier this year, with officials emphasizing continuous improvement and community participation in shaping future services.
With the hackathon scheduled for July 21–22, DICT has urged interested participants to complete the pre-registration process through the official events.e.gov.ph platform while slots remain available.
Teams must consist of exactly five members, with each participant registering individually. Successful applicants will receive confirmation and further competition details before the event begins.
As preparations enter their final week, the eGovHackathon 2026 represents one of the government’s most direct invitations for the Philippine technology community to contribute ideas that could shape the next generation of digital public services.
